Spring Snacks for You and Your Pup: Dog-Friendly Veggies to Try

It's finally spring! Which means not only can my dog and I finally thaw out after a harsh winter, but we can also snack on seasonal produce!

Here are some of our favorite seasonal veggies that are safe for canine consumption!

(Just a quick disclaimer – be sure to talk to your vet before introducing your dog to new foods).

Artichokes

One of my favorite foods is artichokes. My furry friend did not fall far from the tree and also thoroughly enjoys a good artichoke heart. It’s important to note that dogs should only have cooked, unseasoned, small pieces of this edible thistle.

Beets

I’m a fan of beets, but my dog thinks they are disgusting, so she is not happy that the vegetable is on this list.

I would recommend mashing up boiled, plain beets -- which are high in Vitamin C -- and serving them with your dog's dry food as a special treat.

Carrots

Speaking of Vitamin C, feel free to feed your dog some carrots. According to the AKC, this root vegetable is a great snack to give your teething puppy, “as a way to relieve teething discomfort.”

Asparagus

Asparagus is also one of my go-to vegetables. I, personally, like air frying it with some olive oil and parmesan. While our furry friends can also munch on asparagus, they’ll have to eat it plain. You should also cook it thoroughly and cut it up before serving it to your canine friend.
