5 Kid-Friendly Dog Breeds That Make Perfect Family Companions

If you have kids, you know adding a furry friend to your family is an exciting time. While we're sure your kid will be happy with whatever kind of dog you bring home, it's in your best interest to pick a breed that will actually enjoy being around children. Otherwise, you may find yourself in a situation where you have to rehome the dog, which is heartbreaking for everyone involved.

Thankfully, there are plenty of child-friendly breeds to choose from! Here are five types of dogs that will not only not mind, but actually love being your kid’s new BFF.

With their sweet face and equally sweet disposition, it’s no wonder that Golden Retrievers are one of the most family-friendly dogs. While overall very calm, Goldens are playful goofballs that provide kids with endless entertainment. You might even be lucky and find a Retriever that is particularly gifted at basketball and ends up on the roster of your child’s team.

Boxers

Despite the breed's name, Boxers won't force your kid to face off in the ring. Instead, these very good boys and girls, known for their gentle nature, will just offer plenty of cuddles and kisses.

Not only are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels ridiculously adorable, but they make wonderful playmates for children. However, as they are on the more delicate side, you’ll want to make sure your child is being as gentle as possible when playing with their furry friend.

Energetic and extremely intelligent, a Poodle is sure to be your child's favorite playmate. That being said, your family will have to be prepared for a dog who loves running around and playing fetch. You may also want to brush up on your French.

Mixed Breeds

Mixed-breed dogs are absolutely incredible pups and, unfortunately, tend to have a difficult time finding homes. Don't be afraid of welcoming a dog into your home, just because they don't have a pedigree. Also, it's way easier to adopt and not shop when it comes to bringing home a mixed-breed dog!
