Christine Nendick's Blog 'Rescue in Style' Showcases Rescue Dogs and Adorable Outfits
In 2017, Christine Nendick, a Chicago-based rescue advocate, was “scrolling through Instagram” and came across a picture of a blogger holding a puppy. This sparked an idea. What if she created a fashion blog that showcased both rescue dogs and her adorable wardrobe?
After spending time researching how to be an efficient blogger, she began posting on her own website, called The Rescue Runway. She eventually changed the name of her blog to Rescue in Style. For over three years now, Christine has partnered with rescues and shelters to promote pups who need a furever home.
We had the pleasure of chatting with Christine in a recent episode of The Woof Life Show, where we discussed her dedication to helping dogs in such a fun, innovative way.
During our interview, she noted that she has always been a huge animal lover and even had plans of becoming a veterinarian. Her dream was cut short, however, during her studies at the University of Illinois. While watching a surgery being performed at a veterinarian clinic, Christine fainted and soon decided to switch her major to psychology. However, she remained passionate about animal welfare.
Even before starting the blog, Christine had been volunteering at local rescues in the Chicago area, which she noted has a “thriving rescue community.” She currently walks dogs at Chicago Animal Care & Control and recently joined Second City Canine’s intake team.
Her connections with said rescues allowed her to feel comfortable when she initially embarked on the project. She noted that the first rescue she worked with was The Anti-Cruelty Society, located on Grand Ave. in Chicago. Like many of her subsequent posts, Christine posed with an adoptable pooch while wearing a chic outfit.
During our interview, the blogger encouraged our listeners to adopt. Christine noted that even designer dogs end up at shelters, so if you do have a fixation with say, a goldendoodle (and seriously who can blame you), there’s a good chance you can still adopt, not shop. She then proceeded to encourage potential pup parents not to be so breed focused and to give all dogs a chance, especially pit bulls. The fashionista stated that she believed pits are stigmatized due to harmful stereotypes but are in reality, “the biggest babies.”
She continued our conversation by emphasizing how much goes into rescuing an animal.
“There's a lot of non-appreciation in the field… you don't see all the 19 steps it takes to get that animal into a home… I think that [animal rescuers] deserve a lot of credit and a lot of amazing people that are doing amazing work... I want to give them a bajillion dollars,” said Christine.
Along with being an animal advocate and running Rescue in Style, the blogger also has a history of fostering and adopting rescue animals. She currently has two cats, Roni and Cheese, and a Greyhound called Rawlings, who was once a racing dog. Christine humorously noted that her pooch, while extremely fast, is a complete couch potato.
