Actress And Writer Dianne Scott Advocates For Pit Bulls Through Humor And Heart
Actress and writer Dianne Scott is the creative genius behind the popular Instagram account, Tale of Two Pitties (@aTaleOf2Pitties), and the hilarious YouTube series The Mayor of Roovilles. Her content mainly consists of hilarious skits starring her animals, specifically her two pit-mixes, Goatie and Roo. She has also penned a children’s book series, which was initially inspired by her beloved pit bull named Hurley.
We had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Dianne on a recent episode of the Woof Life Show.
While Dianne is now a passionate pit bull advocate, she revealed to us that she was once fearful of the breed due to negative stereotypes. In 2012, she and her husband, Sam, were looking for rescues to adopt. When Sam expressed interest in a pit bull mix, Dianne was apprehensive.
“I said… ‘I don't really feel comfortable, like aren’t they dangerous, can’t they snap at any time’… and [my husband] said ‘no, no that’s a myth,’” explained the actress.
Reassured by her husband, the couple decided to adopt Hurley, who changed the trajectory of Dianne’s life. The couple soon fell completely in love with the precious pup. Dianne noted, however, that strangers did not seem so enthralled by his presence, again because of the stigma surrounding pits. She stated that while walking Hurley, she would receive “dirty looks.”
“People were literally telling me to keep my pit bull away from them,” said Dianne.
Unfortunately, Hurley passed away when he was only four years old from Lymphoma. She noted that while the cancer was aggressive, the pup still “lived his life to the fullest” until his final days. The heartbreaking experience served as a catalyst for her to write the picture book Hurley Goes To Heaven.
After his passing, Dianne decided to fully commit to helping pit bulls in need and adopted Goatie and Roo. She uses her platform to share videos, that have made us laugh out loud in public, to show that pitties are just silly sweethearts. Not only that but she is also a vocal member of the pit bull community in the Los Angeles area and educates those who may be wary about the misunderstood breed.
