13 Famous Scream Queens Who Love Their Dogs: Horror Stars and Their Adorable Pups

With spooky season just starting, it’s time to curl up on the couch with your dog and have a horror movie marathon. Now, you may feel overwhelmed when choosing what to pick. There are so many great movies to select from, and in general, dogs are pretty big movie snobs, so your pooch will likely be pretty vocal if they don’t like your pick.

To remedy this issue, may we suggest choosing a horror film starring a dog lover? Without further ado, here are some of our favorite horror movie stars, also known as “Scream Queens,” who are proud pup parents.

Florence Pugh

Horror Movie She’s Been In: Midsommar

Name of Her Dog: Billie

Florence Pugh acted her heart out in Ari Aster’s 2019 Midsommar. Thankfully, Pugh does not seem nearly as distressed as her character, Dani, in real life. In fact,

In fact, from what it seems like on social media, the actress has a peaceful life with her rescue dog, Billie.

Horror Movies She’s Been In: Jennifer’s Body, You Should Have Left

Name of Her Dog: Finn

Amanda Seyfried is a devoted dog mom to an adorable 16-year-old Australian Shepherd named Finn, who has been by her side since she was 24.

Octavia Spencer, who is very unsettling in the 2019 film Ma, has a lovely little lady named Ethel. She adopted the gorgeous Brussels Griffon in 2015.

Courteney Cox

Horror Movies She’s Been In: Scream, Scream 2, Scream 3, Scream 4

Name of Her Dogs: Harley and Hopper

The Scream is one of my favorite horror movies, and I love Courteney Cox’s character, Gale Weathers, to the point that I have sported a very similar haircut to what she has in Scream 3. I’ll be the first to say that it wasn’t a good look. I digress.

The Friends actress has two super cute Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, named Harley and Hopper, who she often features on social media.

Drew Barrymore

Horror Movies She’s Been In: Firestarter, Cat's Eye, Altered States, Scream

Name of Her Dogs: Douglas and Lucy

Drew Barrymore has been a long-time animal lover and rescue advocate. Barrymore currently has two pups, including her rescue dog Douglas, who is a fixture on her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show.

“I’ve been such a dog lover my whole life. I actually had cats until I was 19 and then I started adopting dogs I rescued nine different dogs and fostered dogs I currently have a rescue dog named douglas and life is better with dogs and life is definitely better with rescue dogs,” said Barrymore in a 2016 interview with Entertainment Tonight

Patrick Wilson

Horror Movies He’s Been In: Insidious, The Conjuring film franchise, Insidious: Chapter 2, The Conjuring 2, Insidious: The Last Key, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home

Name of His Dogs: Louise and Mabel

If Jamie Lee Curtis is the “Scream Queen,” I think it’s safe to say that Patrick Wilson is the “Scream King,” as he is the star of both the Insidious and The Conjuring franchises. The actor has two rescue dogs, Mabel and Louise, who apparently have big personalities.

Jodi Foster

Horror Movie She’s Been In: The Silence of the Lambs

Sarah Michelle Gellar and her husband (I Know What You Did Last Summer co-star), Freddy Prince Jr., already had their precious pups, Kumi and Sato, before they decided to rescue Franz.

In a September 2022 interview with People magazine, Gellar said she didn’t intend to adopt the dachshund.

“We had no intention of getting another dog. A friend of ours was housing the dog because the owner couldn't take care of the dog anymore, and they were looking for a home,” said Gellar to the publication. “And I was like, 'No, no, we have two. I've got two kids, two working parents, and two big dogs. I can't do this.’ And literally, they said, 'Can you just watch the dog for an hour?' And they know that's it. That was it. This dog was meant for me."

Jenna Ortega

Horror Movies She’s Been In: Scream (2022), Scream VI, X, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, and Insidious: Chapter 2

Name of Her Dog: Stinky

I would argue that Jenna Ortega is the current Scream Queen. The actress owns a furry friend named Stinky.

Melissa Barrera

Melissa Barrera, who played Ortega’s on-screen sister in Scream (2022) and Scream VI, also absolutely loves dogs. The actress has two long-haired chihuahuas.

According to its website, the foundation is focused on “alleviat[ing] suffering, while rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming abused, neglected and abandoned animals.” The LBWF, which is located in Acton, CA, is described as “a unique safe haven for [rescue] animals.”

Blair is also determined to dispel the negative stereotypes surrounding pit bulls. During a 2016 episode of “Oprah: Where Are They Now?,” the actress revealed she was inspired to help these misunderstood dogs when one “followed [her] home.” At the time, she was afraid of pit bulls and ran away from the dog, but soon realized he was harmless and was actually “asking for help.”
