Amanda Seyfried Shares How Her Beloved 15-Year-Old Dog, Finn, Changed Her Life

Amanda Seyfried is sharing how much her beloved dog, Finn, means to her.

In an October 2024 interview with People magazine, Seyfried shared she believes having an animal gives their owner “purpose.”

“No matter what we say, we can't deny the fact that we need purpose, and to have that responsibility of taking care of animals, who don't have a voice and can't really do much for themselves, it gives you so much more than we could ever give them, really," said Seyfried.

In addition, she said she believes her life could have looked very different if she had not adopted Finn when she was in her early 20s.

"I don't know what my twenties would've looked like without Finn. I really don't know. I don't know how I would've navigated Hollywood. I mean, I stayed out of a lot of trouble, I think, because I had that guy to come home to,” said Seyfried

Seyfried decided to adopt her canine companion in her early 20s after experiencing debilitating anxiety right when her career was taking off.

“I grew up with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) which I have overcome in a lot of ways. But even so, when I was living alone in Los Angeles in my early 20s, I felt really lonely and scared. I wanted my Mom to be with me, and that’s really difficult when you think that because you’re also thinking, ‘Oh, God, how can I not function as an adult without my mother? How embarrassing, how shameful,’” explained the actress in a 2019 interview with Express. “Then, when I was about 24, I got Finn, and he not only made me feel I wasn’t alone, he actually helped me to enjoy my solitude. These days, I thrive when I’m on my own, which is so freeing. There is so much that I don’t fear any more, just because of him.”

In an essay she penned for InStyle, Seyfried shared she does not enjoy being separated from her dog. She stated that she has made “sure Finn is allowed on set in all of [her] work contracts.”

According to Seyfried, Finn inspired her “to get more involved in animal advocacy” and make numerous videos for Best Friends Animal Society.
