Fans Think Michael J. Fox's New Puppy Looks Like Dog From 'Back to the Future'
I’ll start by saying that I’m a massive fan of Michael J. Fox. I’m not ashamed to admit that his iconic “Back to the Future” character, Marty McFly was my first crush. In the sixth grade, I spent every Friday night watching “Back to the Future” or “Back to the Future II” (depending on my mood) on my portable DVD player. I digress.
My appreciation for the actor, 61, has never diminished. This is especially true after finding out that he is a devoted dog dad.
On March 6, 2023, Fox took to Instagram to share that he has a new furry family member named Blue. The post featured a picture of the “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey” actor posing with the precious pup, who appears to be a poodle mix.
“Hey Blue, welcome to your new home!” read the caption of the post.
Several fans flocked to the post’s comments section to share that they believed Blue looks similar to Marty’s mentor, Dr. Emmett Brown’s (Christopher Lloyd) shaggy dog, Einstein, in “Back to the Future.”
“He kind of looks like Einstein,” wrote a commenter.
“Aww he looks like a baby Einstein! ❤️,” added another.
“Is this a reincarnation of Einstein? He looks so much like him ❤️,” asserted a commenter.
“It looks like Einstein!” shared a fourth social media user.
Michael J. Fox Lost His Beloved Dog, Gus, in 2021
In 2021, Fox made the heartbreaking announcement that his dog, Gus, had passed away at the age of 12. People Magazine reported that the 61-year-old shared the devastating news with his Instagram followers.
"Gus — great dog and loyal friend, we'll miss you," read the post’s caption.
During a November 2020 interview with CBS News, the “Back to the Future” star noted that his Great Dane-Labrador mix gave him comfort even during his most difficult days while managing his Parkinson's disease.
"You know that no matter your situation, no matter what you feel, this animal is with you and is connected to you, and you feel. It's a force multiplier," said the actor. “He knows when there’s something different about me. Your instinct when you have a chronic illness is to sometimes isolate and make your world as small as possible so you don't have much to deal with, but a dog will open you up.”
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Fox wrote about his furry friend at length in his 2020 memoir “No Time Like The Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality.” He stated that they “rescued each other” and poignantly pondered how much time they had left together.
“Gus puts aging, and ultimately mortality, into perspective for me,” wrote Fox.
