Kelsea Ballerini Shares Emotional Update on Her 10-Year-Old Dog Dibby

Country singer Kelsea Ballerini has an update about her beloved 10-year-old dog, Dibby.

In a September 24 Instagram Story, Ballerini, who recently announced her split from actor, Chase Stokes, shared that her furry friend, who is battling cancer, has unexpectedly undergone surgery. 

“Baby boy has a surprise surgery today. We would appreciate all of the big love and prayers and healing energy you can send his way. It's gotten him this far,” wrote Ballerini in her Story, alongside a photo of her beautiful best friend. 

Today reported that Ballerini announced her canine companion was diagnosed with heart cancer in August 2024. In an August 2024 Instagram Story, the “Blindsided” singer shared that the cancer is inoperable. 

"The last few days we have discovered that dibby has inoperable cancer in his heart," wrote Ballerini.

She assured fans that her very good boy is “not in pain.” She also shared that her biggest concern is making sure her furry friend is comfortable. 

“We're going to start him on the 'big' meds to try to make sure he can have as many comfortable and happy days (weeks, months) left as possible,” said Ballerini. 

In addition, she shared that the situation is “a complex and emotional time.” She explained that her furry friend has “been [her] baby and [her] steady for the last nine years.” 

“i know so many of you care about him and are sending him prayers and love, and from my whole heart... thank you. he's wagging his tail right now no doubt saying thank you too,” continued Ballerini. 

Ballerini often speaks about how important Dibby is to her. For instance, in a 2020 interview with CMT, Ballerini shared that thinking about Dibby has gotten her through any pre-performance nerves. 

“I know that even if I fall on my face, he’s still going to me. I really think the magic of a dog is that they’ll show up for you and always be happy to see you. And love you no matter what,” said Ballerini.
