Is CBD Right For Your Dog?
Within the last few years, Cannabidiol (CBD) has become all the rage. You’ve likely come across numerous CBD products, like lotions, pain relief creams, bath bombs, and gummies.
According to WebMD, CBD, which is “found in the Cannabis sativa plant,” can help with several ailments like anxiety disorders and chronic illnesses.
Now, some pet parents may wonder if CBD can be beneficial for their furry friends. The American Kennel Club reported that CBD is safe to give to dogs. That being said, you need to check with your veterinarian before introducing your furry friend to the substance. It is also important to note that THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is toxic and should never be consumed by a canine companion.
According to AKC, giving arthritic dogs CBD may improve their symptoms, as evidenced by a study from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Research suggested that furry friends who took cannabidiol “showed significant improvement in pain relief and quality of life.”
CBD may also be a good option for those who are seeking treatment for their anxious pooch. Proponents of cannabidiol believe that it can be beneficial for your dog’s mental health. For instance, research from the University of Western Australia indicated that CBD helps aggressive dogs behave more calmly.
In addition, Colorado State University provided data that indicated epileptic dogs who consumed CBD had fewer seizures.
It will be up to your discretion about what CBD product you give your furry friend. Your pup’s veterinarian will not be able to provide recommendations as the Food and Drug Administration has not approved CBD for dogs and cats.
