Inside the World of the Scene-Stealing Dogs of ‘Bridgerton’: From Queen Charlotte’s Pomeranians to Newton the Corgi
The highly anticipated fourth season of the Netflix show Bridgerton, based on the book series by Julia Quinn, premieres on January 28. I’ll definitely be tuning in! For one, I’m looking forward to seeing the ever-so rakish Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) complicated, Cinderella-inspired romance with maid Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) on-screen. I also love seeing the show’s cast of seriously adorable furry friends on each season;
As fans are aware, Queen Charlotte, played by Golda Rosheuvel, and her ladies in waiting are often seen pampering her Pomeranians. In a December 2020 interview with Express, Rosheuvel shared some insight about her canine co-stars.
“I do very well with dogs, and these were very feisty so you had to calm them down a little bit, but they were excellent dogs. They were as rowdy as the Queen sometimes, but I loved that,” revealed Rosheuvel.
Bridgerton season 2, which happened to be my favorite season, introduced audiences to an adorable corgi named Newton. On the show, the pup is owned by Kate Sharma (Simon Ashely). During a March 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ashley and her co-star Jonathan Bailey, who plays her on-screen love interest, Anthony Bridgerton, shared their thoughts about the precious pup, Austin, who plays Newton.
“We had a corgi that came on set and ate snacks all day long. He was a little bit sassy and kind of goes off and does his own thing. I like to think that him and I when we were together, he listened to me. It was always a good day when he was on set,” said Ashley.
Bailey then admitted that he did not have the best working relationship with Austin.
"Austin played Newton and it's a sterling, stunning performance, but do you know what? We didn't get on,” said the actor.
Bailey then shared that the pup is a major fan of sausage, which was used throughout the production of the show’s second season.
“We had to hold little crumbs of sausage in my hand to try and get him to jump in my lap,” revealed the Wicked star.
