In Loving Memory of Henry the Colorado Dog
Here at Woof Republic, we were devastated to find out that Henry the Colorado Dog passed away after battling cancer. If you are one of his devoted 2.2 million Instagram followers, you are well aware that the sweet rescue loved nothing more than going on adventures in the great outdoors and spending time with his best friend, Baloo, who happens to be a cat.
While speaking to The Dodo in 2018, the furry friends’ owner Cynthia Bennett, who resides in Colorado, shared that she and her boyfriend, Andre Sibilsky, adopted Henry when he was just three months old. The pup suffered from separation anxiety, so the couple decided to get him a feline companion. Cynthia shared that the two rescues were instantly thick as thieves. Baloo even accompanied Henry on his beloved backpacking trips! The photographer explained that she loved her animals’ bond, as “they kind of represent, no matter your differences you can still love each other.”
On March 30, 2021, Cynthia announced the heartbreaking news of Henry’s passing on his and Baloo’s joint Instagram account. She shared that the couple’s “dear sweet Henry crossed the rainbow bridge on Monday.” She noted that while she and Andre are devastated, they are “so grateful to [have gotten] a few more days with him” outside of the confines of a hospital. In his final days, the sweet dog was able to be with his family to go on one last adventure.
“He deserved to see the mountains one last time and be surrounded by fresh air and love until the end. He deserved those last days even though they were the most painful days for Andre, myself and Baloo. Watching Baloo go through this is beyond horrible,” shared Cynthia.
Cynthia also revealed that moments leading up to his death, the very good boy “licked [her] face enthusiastically for a whole minute and then just let go and closed his eyes.”
“I think he was telling me that everything was going to be ok and that he loved me one last time. He hadn’t kissed me in a week because it was too painful for him (lymph nodes were so swollen), but he gave that to me in the end.. I’ll always cherish that gift you gave Henry,” wrote the photographer.
We are so sorry for your loss Cynthia and Andre! Rest in peace, Henry, we will all miss you so much!
