How Often Should You Brush Your Dog's Fur?
Not to brag, but my dog has the most gorgeous hair. However, it does require quite a bit of upkeep when it is not cut short. To ensure that her beautiful mane does not get matted, I have to brush my dog for at least 10 minutes daily.
This got me thinking about whether this is typical for most dogs. Petco reports that the number of times you will have to get out a brush for your dog can be determined by their breed and coat. For instance, hairless pups, like Chinese Crested, should get a light brushing twice a month. In addition, if you have smooth, short-haired friends, such as a Doberman, you will only have to take out the dreaded brush once a week. Meanwhile, pups with wiry, curly, or double-coated fur should be thoroughly brushed, twice a week. Pup parents will have to brush their long-haired dogs every other day.
On top of brushing, all dogs should get professionally groomed. According to Twin Peaks Veterinary Center, our canine companions should be groomed between one month and three months. The exact number is contingent on your dog’s specific coat. For instance, our short-haired friends can typically be fine without going to the groomer for 12 weeks. However, our long-hair fluffy friends should visit the groomer about once a month.
