Here's What You Need to Know About Patrick Mahomes' Beloved Dogs

This Sunday marks one of the biggest events of the year! The Puppy Bowl! I mean, if you are a sports fan, the Super Bowl is also a pretty big deal.

Even if you aren’t, you may be interested in rooting for players who are huge dog lovers. For instance, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a devoted dog dad to two precious pups, Steel, a pit bull, and Silver, a Cane Corso.

Mahomes shares his furry friends with his wife Brittany Matthews, who is also a major dog lover.

While he adores his canine companions, the football player once had a phobia of dogs, as reported by The Kansas City Star

“Until I was in high school. Then I went straight to a pit bull,” explained Mahones while speaking to the publication.

He noted he gifted Steel to Matthews in 2016 and has been smitten with the pit bull ever since.

“He’s an awesome dog, very loving, very energetic, so just having him, he’s like my best friend. It’s a great dog to have,” said the NFL player.

The quarterback has been a vocal advocate for pit bulls and has been attempting to dispel the notion that they are dangerous.

“I hate how they get stereotyped as aggressive. Any dog can be aggressive, it’s basically the way they’re raised. This is the sweetest pup ever,” assured Mahones.

Not only does Mahones love dogs, he also identifies with them. In a press interview, Mahomes shared his response to being asked if he was more like a dog or a cat.

“I chose dog because I feel like I have that fiery dog mentality on the field,” said Mahomes.

Silver and Steel have become a social media sensation, with a joint Instagram account, boasting over 200,000 followers. In their picture, they are often seen cuddling their pup parents, which is adorable.

Here at Woof Republic, we appreciate celebrities, like Mahomes, who use their platform to promote pit bulls and Cane Corsos, who are typically misunderstood!
