Here's How a Rescue Dog Began Starring on 'Lopez vs Lopez'
If you have been watching the NBC sitcom, “Lopez vs Lopez,” you have likely fallen in love with the Lopez family’s adorable dog named Churro, portrayed by a very good girl, Noelle.
Noelle’s owner and trainer, Jubel Chen, opened up about how she adopted the lovely lady in an April 2024 interview with People magazine. While speaking to the publication, Chen shared that she happened upon the pup while she was handling other canine companions in Los Angeles for a project in 2017. An individual pointed out Noelle and inquired if she was a dog Chen had been training.
“They asked, 'Is this one of your dogs?' Because we were doing a shoot down there, and we said, 'No,' but we'd take her and see if we could find her people," said the Guin's Movie Menagerie animal trainer.
She stated that when she was unable to locate Noelle’s home, she took her in. Chen then began to train the pup to see if she would be suited for stardom.
"She's too cute not to be in the business. It took her about six months before she was like, okay, I think you can do this," said Chen.
After filming commercials and appearing on “Modern Family,” Noelle joined the cast of “Lopez vs Lopez” in 2022. According to Chen, her dog enjoys being around her “Lopez vs Lopez” co-stars.
"When she goes to set, she is a little diva. She'll walk onto set and wag her tail like she owns the place, and then people come and pet her, and she acknowledges them without acknowledging them," said the animal trainer.
In addition, Chen shared that Noelle is not the only rescue dog she has worked with on film and television sets. She stated that nearly every dog she has trained needed a home.
"All the animals at shelters and rescues need some time and socialization. Have patience with them, and they turn out to be amazing pets,” said Chen. “They feel it, and they will give it back to you. I feel that with all of my animals. If you treat them well, they will be super grateful."
If you are like Chen and are interested in adopting a rescue dog, consider contacting your local shelters to see who needs a good home.
