Can I Feed My Dog Watermelon?
Summer is my dog’s favorite season by far. It might have to do with the fact that we moved from sunny California to Oregon, where it rains 90 percent of the time. When the sun is out, you better believe she’s enjoying herself, basking in the warm weather.
During the summer season, I want my furry friend to enjoy herself as much as possible. For this reason, she’s invited to as many picnics and barbecues as she would like to attend. For these outings, I make sure I bring dog-friendly food for my furry friend to enjoy. Thankfully, this includes my favorite summer-time snack, watermelon. According to the American Kennel Club, watermelon is a-okay to feed our furry friends as long as you remove the seeds. Not only is watermelon delicious, but consuming the fruit is quite beneficial, as it has "vitamins A, B6, and C, and potassium." It is also not that high in calories, meaning it is a suitable treat even for dogs on a weight loss journey.
There are a few different ways you can serve watermelon to your pup. My dog prefers when I cut up the fruit into bite-sized pieces. On particularly warm days, you can freeze the watermelon pieces to make a delicious pupsicle. You can also blend the frozen chunks with some water to make a tasty, dog-friendly slushie.
