Can Dogs Eat Peas?
A few days ago, I spilled a bag of frozen peas on the floor. My dog frantically ran from the other room and ate probably 5 peas within a couple of seconds. This is an extremely impressive feat, given that she is only 10 pounds. Also, I don’t think she’s ever had peas before – so good for her to try something new.
However, I was extremely concerned because I wasn’t sure if peas were safe for dogs.
Thankfully, a small amount of peas should be safe for your dog to eat, as reported by the American Kennel Club. While the vegetable has a good amount of fiber and protein, peas can be risky to give our furry friends. For one, pea pods can be a choking hazard. In addition, some evidence indicates that dog food with peas as an ingredient could be linked with the heart disease dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), which is typically seen in breeds like Doberman Pinschers, Boxers, and Great Danes.
With this information, you should refrain from purposefully giving your furry friend peas.
