Can Dogs Eat Bread?

I don’t mean to brag, but my husband is absolutely obsessed with making bread, which means I get to enjoy a fresh loaf every week. And every time I munch on a slice, my furry friend always gets a bite or two.

That’s right! It’s actually safe to give your dog bread, as long as it is “in moderation,” as reported by the American Kennel Club. However, not all bread is made the same when it comes to our canine companions. For instance, you shouldn’t give dogs bread with raisins, garlic, nuts, seeds, chocolate, or nutmeg, as these ingredients are toxic to pups.

PetMD also reported that you should never allow your dog to eat “raw, yeast-based bread dough” as it can cause serious health issues. If your furry friend does consume any of said dough, they need to be seen by an emergency vet ASAP.

In addition, you should always talk it to your vet before introducing new foods – like bread – to your dog’s diet!
