5 Fun 2026 Resolution Ideas for You and Your Pup

2025 is almost over! If you’re like the 33 percent of Americans, you might already be jotting down your New Year’s Resolutions for 2026. While it’s easy to come up with ways we can better ourselves, it’s usually hard to actually stay motivated.

However, we think your canine companion can be a great way to stay on track with your resolutions! Basically, all you need to do is use the buddy system with your furry friend to help you achieve your goals for 2026.

And to make your life a little bit easier, here are some ideas for resolutions you and your dog can make together!

Go on a Walk for 30 minutes a Day

According to Better Health, even going on a 30-minute stroll a day “can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance.”

While walking can be a bit dull, there are ways to make going on a stroll more exciting. I, personally, am a fan of audiobooks, especially those that are dog-oriented. My suggestions are The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein, A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron, and Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan.

Just a disclaimer: if you do choose to listen to these books while on a walk, you are going to need to be okay with crying in public.

Stick With a New Hobby

Every year, I try to find a new hobby. 2025 was my year of getting into pottery. And not to brag, but I actually made two dog bowls just for my very good girl. If you like the idea of taking on a hobby to benefit your furry friend, but don’t love pottery, you’ve got some other options. For instance, you can take up knitting to make them a blanket or baking to whip up some dog-friendly tasty treats.

Practice Self-Care

When you are busy or stressed out, it's easy to neglect yourself. This upcoming year, consider treating yourself like you would your dog. Go on walks, make sure that you are practicing good hygiene, make sure you are hydrated, and eat healthily. Also, don't forget to have fun and treat yourself from time to time!

Get a Check-up at Least Once a Year

I believe wholeheartedly that one of the worst things about being an adult is remembering to go to the doctor. However, if you have the means, it’s always a good idea to get at least one annual check-up.

The same goes for your pooch! If you have a senior dog, you should be scheduling veterinary appointments at least twice a year.

Go on More Adventures

While it’s tempting to stay curled up on the couch, you and your dog will have more fun if you go on some adventures. Go to the dog beach, make friends at the dog park, go camping, or head over to your local hiking trail. No matter what you decide to do, we know you’ll have a blast because your furry friend is by your side!
