9 Holiday Movies That Feature Dogs Perfect for a Cozy Night In
During the month of December, all my dog and I want to do is get cozy on the couch and watch a good holiday movie. While nearly all holiday movies can melt even the most frozen of hearts, we do have our preferences. Basically, all of our favorite holiday films feature furry friends who are totally scene-stealers.
Here are nine cheery Christmas movies that showcase the talents of canine companions.
'Santa Buddies'
If you are a long-time reader of Woof Republic, you know my dog is obsessed with the Air Bud film franchise. Santa Buddies, released in 2009, is the ninth film in the franchise. However, you won’t catch these adorable golden retriever puppies playing sports in this movie. Instead, they learn the real meaning of Christmas.
'A Charlie Brown Christmas'
Speaking of the meaning of Christmas, Linus grapples with the commercialism of the holiday in the 1965 animated film, A Charlie Brown Christmas. Meanwhile, everyone’s favorite beagle, Snoopy, is just having a good time.
'Beethoven's Christmas Adventure'
Who doesn’t want to watch a St. Bernard enjoy the holidays?
'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'
Max is the Grinch’s adorable canine sidekick in both the animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas film and the 2000 live-action version.
'The Holiday'
The delightful 2006 rom-com The Holiday features Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz) spending some time in Iris’ (Kate Winslet) quaint English cottage, where her dog resides.
'The Nightmare Before Christmas'
There’s some debate about whether 1993’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie. Well, given the fact that Christmas is in the title, we’re going with the latter. In this spooky movie, Jack Skeleton has a very good boy, the ghostly Zero.
'Gremlins'
Like The Nightmare Before Christmas, the 1984 horror-comedy Gremlins isn’t always viewed as a holiday movie. But it literally takes place on Christmas Eve, so I don’t want to hear it. This movie has a very helpful pup called Barney, whom the ever-so-adorable Gizmo calls Woof Woof.
'A Christmas Story'
One of my favorite scenes from this classic is when the Parkers’ neighbor’s bloodhounds wreak havoc in their kitchen.
'Merv'
Merv, released on December 10, is a super cute holiday romcom starring Charlie Cox and Zooey Deschanel, who is also in the Christmas favorite, Elf. The film focuses on Cox and Deschanel’s characters, Russ and Anna, co-parenting their dog, Merv, following a breakup.
