'Turns Out, Zero Yorkie': People Are Sharing The Wildly Wrong Breeds Their Rescue Dogs Were Labeled As, And Honestly, Some Of These Guesses Were Truly Something
Here at Woof Republic, we adore all rescue dogs, regardless of breed. However, we do find it amusing when rescue dogs get misidentified. For instance, a friend of ours has an adorable 45-pound little man who was labeled as a purebred beagle at a shelter. However, DNA tests (and his appearance) have shown that he’s a lab/pitbull/chihuahua mix.
And apparently, it’s pretty common for pup parents to realize their furry friend’s actual breed years after their adoption.
For instance, a dog owner recently took to the Dog subreddit on Reddit, posing the question, “What breed did your rescue/shelter claim your dog was and how wrong were they?”
Several pup parents flocked to the post’s comments section to share their humorous anecdotes about their respective rescues.
For instance, one commenter revealed that their pup, who was labeled a Yorkshire terrier, ended up being something entirely different.

“Meet my ‘Yorkie.’ Turns out, zero Yorkie. Bichon, poodle, Shih Tzu, Lhasa, Pekingese, Westie, Boston, and a DROP of German Shepherd,” wrote the Reddit user.
Others shared that their very good girl Rosie had been misidentified as a Boxer, Australian Shepard mix.

“This is Rosie. Rosie was ‘advertised’ as a aussie boxer mix. This was wrong. Shes 29% american staffy, 21% american bully, 20% siberian husky, 12% gsd, 11% APBT, and 8% chow chow,” shared the commenter.
Another dog owner also shared that their furry friend ended up much smaller than expected, writing, “I once got a puppy they said was a German Shorthair Pointer mix. They estimated she would be around 40-50 pounds. She was some kind of rat terrier mix. Maxed out at 25 pounds.”
The same commenter also wrote that they encounter the opposite issue with another rescue dog.
“I ended up with my Malinois mix because the shelter told the adoptive family she would be around 40 pounds. Called her a lab mix. Shes about 75 pounds. And she does have some lab in her, but she's mostly mal,” continued the commenter.
And finally, a different pup parent wrote their “German Shepard” was actually mostly Greyhound.

“Was told my girly was a German Shepherd only..... Turns out she is mostly GREYHOUND with some German Shepherd,” read the comment.
