Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis Celebrates 50th Birthday by Saying 'I Do' to Her Dog
As a millennial, you best believe I adore actress and singer Jenny Lewis. And, I’ll tell you what I’m even more in love after the Rilo Kiley frontwoman revealed how she welcomed turning 50 on January 8.
People magazine reported that Lewis decided to throw a backyard wedding for her and her beloved cockapoo, Bobby Rhubarb, for her 50th. Lewis sported a white dress and a matching veil, while her pup wore a flower collar.
Several guests celebrated alongside Lewis and her pup, such as her Postal Service bandmate, Ben Gibbard, and Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet fame.

Obviously, Bobby Rhubarb and Lewis actually aren’t married, and this was just for fun. Lewis shared how much her dog means to her during a 2023 Rolling Stone interview. She explained that she “was in a really rough spot” about a year following the start of the COVID-19 pandemic before bringing her pup home.
“I'd been isolated for over a year, quarantining totally on my own, and I had to find things to get me out of the house," said Lewis.
The Troop Beverly Hills actress also explained that while she doesn’t “have any kids,” her furry friend “opened [her] up in so many ways” and taught her to be “responsible for a soul and caring for something outside of [herself].”
“It's been a really important lesson for me. Kind of obvious, I guess, but I had no idea. I had fantasies of owning a white wolf. Instead, I ended up with a cockapoo,” said Lewis.
Now, we totally understand why you wouldn’t want to throw a wedding for your dog (few can pull that off). However, if you are getting married (to a human), there are ways to implement your furry friend in your nuptials. For instance, you could have your pup be the flower-dog or ring-bearer. If your venue doesn’t allow furry friends, you could serve a signature cocktail/mocktail inspired by your pup. In addition, you have the option of using their adorable likeness as decorations. We’re thinking cocktail napkins with your dog’s super cute mug on them, or pictures of your pup on each table number or name card.
