'New Girl' Star Has a Sad Update About His Rescue Dog

Actor Max Greenfield, best known for his role as Schmidt on the beloved sitcom, New Girl, has some sad news about his rescue dog.

People magazine reported that Greenfield’s wife, Tess Sanchez, let fans know the upsetting news that their family dog, Darlene, has passed away in a June 22 Instagram upload. Sanchez, who has two children Lilly, 15, and Ozzie, 9 with Greenfield, shared several pictures of Dalene, who was only 8 at the time of her passing after a cancer diagnosis.

"Our sweet baby girl Darlene has passed on to heaven. Cancer with her advanced age was too big a battle for her to fight. She sprinkled so much love and magic into our lives,” wrote Sanchez in the post’s caption. “I take comfort in knowing we gave her the best last chapter and that she experienced being truly loved and cared for by our whole family. RIP Darlene We miss you so much.”

Several fans took to the post’s comments section to express their condolences for the couple.

“Oh no. So sorry for your loss. Sending you guys all the love! ❤️❤️❤️,” wrote a commenter.

“Awwww I’m so sorry! So happy she was so loved ❤️,” added another.

“Such a heartbreaker-she hit the pitbull jackpot with your family. Thinking about you guys and appreciative that you provided her the best years,” shared a different person.

The publication reported that the sweet girl was in Greenfield and Sanchez’s care since July 2023. The couple adopted the dog from the Los Angeles-based rescue, Wags and Walks. The dog was previously in the shelter for 400 days.

We’re so sorry to hear about your loss Tess and Max! Rest in peace Darlene, you sweet girl!
