What You Need To Know About National Make A Dog's Day
October 22 marks Make A Dog’s Day! The event, sponsored by Subaru, encourages dog lovers to adopt furry friends who have disabilities and/or are in their twilight years. The company has appropriately deemed these canine companions as Underdogs.
Several Underdogs have been spotlighted on the company’s website, including a hearing-impaired pooch named Chewy, a three-legged pit bull called Captain Courage, and Speedy, a terrier who uses the assistance of a wheelchair to get around.
For the past four years, Subaru has committed to helping Underdogs find their forever homes. Throughout October, the company and its retailers will donate “$100 for every pet adopted from hundreds of partner shelters across the country,” per the car company’s website.
One of the best ways to celebrate the holiday is to head over to your local shelter. If you are willing and able, you may want to consider adopting or fostering a furry friend. While puppies are super cute, consider taking home a dog who may not be as sought after. After all, senior dogs and furry friends with disabilities are just as loving and lovable as any other canine companion.
If you are not in a place to adopt or foster, you can still make a furry friend’s day! Call your local shelters and see if they need any volunteers or donations.
