April 10 Is National Hug Your Dog Day
I’m sure none of you need to be reminded, but this past year has not been the easiest. Honestly, one of the ways I was able to get through it was spending time with my dog, and I don’t think I’m alone in this.
Our canine companions deserve to be celebrated for always being there for us. And there’s really not a better day to do so than National Hug Your Dog Day, also known as National Hug Your Hound Day in the United Kingdom. The holiday, which is observed on April 10 in the US, was established by Chicago-based canine behaviorist Ami Moore.
“This day is dedicated to celebrating the bond between you and your dog. National Hug Your Hound Day is about truly observing your dog (from their point of view) in their environment and everyday life and for just one day to see the word as your dog sees it. As you celebrate your beloved dog, remember that today is about keeping our dog’s healthy, happy and safe at home and in our hearts," explained Moore in a statement.
There are a few ways that you can celebrate the pawsome day! Obviously, you can start by giving your pooch a big old hug. But why stop there! Take the opportunity to pamper your pup. For instance, I plan on allowing my dog to have full control of the remote. I have a feeling that we will be watching all 14 of the Air Bud movies, as that is her favorite film franchise. You can also have a mini photoshoot with your dog in your arms and post on social media using the hashtag “national_hug_your_dog_day.“
