Kelly Ripa Announces Devastating News About Her Beloved Dog

Kelly Ripa has lost her beloved dog Chewie.

People magazine reported that Ripa and her husband Mark Consuelos announced the heartbreaking news that their pup, Chewie, had passed away on the February 4 episode of their talk show, “LIVE with Kelly and Mark.”

A tearful Ripa had difficulty speaking as she was overcome with emotion. Consuelos kindly took over the segment and explained to the audience that he and his wife “had to say goodbye to Chewie yesterday.” He said that their dog, who was 17 years old, had “stopped eating for a couple of days” and “was extremely dehydrated and had some neurological stuff going down.” The couple decided that they couldn’t let her suffer any longer. Consuelos said while he and Rippa knew they were making the right choice, “It's probably one of the toughest things we've had to do as a married couple.”

"It takes a pet owner to understand this kind of loss. It's grief. It really is grief. But knowing that we did the right thing because it was just going to be really, really, really bad over the next few days for her,” said Consuelos.

Ripa also shared that she and her husband are “filled with gratitude for this dog.”

“As each one of our kids left for college and moved out on our own, Chewie remained right there. Our steadfast companion,” said Ripa.

She also shared that Chewie “was so special” and “such a great girl.”

Rest in peace Chewie, you beautiful girl! Our hearts are with you, Kelly and Mark!
