Katie Thurston Adopts Rescue Dog Amid Cancer Battle

The Bachelorette” star Katie Thurston announced she recently adopted a super cute rescue pup. 

On March 13, Thurston took to her Instagram account to share several pictures and videos of her new furry friend named Charlie. In the caption of the post, Thurston shared that she adopted the puppy from the New York location of the Animal Rescue Service, Best Friends Animal Society

“A photo dump of our latest family member Charlie 🐶💕 It was important for us to #adoptdontshop so after visiting our local shelters, we landed at @bfas_ny where we found our little mixed #rescue 🤍 What is he? We don’t know yet but his DNA results should come back soon!” read the caption of the post. 

Several fans shared they appreciated Thurston’s decision to adopt not shop. In addition, quite a few commenters referenced that Thurston announced she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in February 2025. 

“I love that you have an emotional support pup through all that you’re going through right now. Good boy Charlie!” wrote a commenter. 

“As they say.. who saved who … ❤️❤️ He’ll be your emotional support dog. I adopted 2 kittens days after my surgery. 😍😍,” added another. 

“Puppies are the perfect medicine!” shared a different person. 

“My dogs were instrumental in my cancer fight… their love is something cancer can’t compete with. You’ve got this! 🙏🏻❤️,” chimed in a social media user. 

Thurston spoke about her cancer diagnosis in a March 2025 interview with “Good Morning America.” The 34-year-old said that receiving her diagnosis was “the worst feeling.” 

“You’re just devastated. You’re so devastated. It’s so shocking,” said the reality television star. 

She also shared that she will undergo chemotherapy to “shrink” her tumor before having surgery to remove it.
