How To Help Dogs Impacted By Hurricane Ian
Hurricane Ian is causing insurmountable damage to Florida residents. The strong winds and heavy rain has caused most of the state to be a dangerous environment. If you are willing and able you can help those who have been impacted by the hurricane. For instance, you can donate to various fundraising efforts.
Dog-lovers may be interested to learn that funds are also being raised to assist furry friends in need. For instance, the Humane Society has an emergency animal relief fund, which will be used to help dogs and cats who have been affected by the deadly hurricane. According to the Humane Society website, the group is “providing emergency transport for Florida shelter animals in the path of Hurricane Ian.”
A local Florida shelter called Big Dog & Small Ranch Rescue, located at 14444 Okeechobee Blvd, Loxahatchee Groves, FL 33470, is also seeking monetary donations, water, blankets, towels, sheets, batteries, flashlights, bleach, trash bags, tarps, work gloves, and gas cans.
Those who would like to lend a helping hand to a canine companion may want to consider fostering. NBC’s WPTV reported that an animal shelter in Palm Beach County, found at 7100 Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach is currently requesting animal lovers to share their home with a precious pup, known as a Hurricane Hound, for a temporary amount of time. The director of Animal Care and Control, Jan Steele explained that the rescue is “looking for people that can take the dogs or the cats for just the duration of a storm.”
“The more space we’ve got, the better, so this is an ideal way for these dogs and cats to find a nice home to chill out with you on your couch and let everybody relax during the hurricane,” explained Steele.
She also noted that foster pup parents will be provided with “leashes [and] food.”
