How Krypto the Superdog Is Helping Real Dogs In Need
As a massive Clark Kent and Lois Lane fan, you best believe I saw Superman opening weekend. And I absolutely loved it. It had humor, heart, hope, and an adorable (and naughty) dog named Krypto the Superdog.
While Krypto certainly saved the day for his buddy Superman, he’s also helping pups in need in the real world. According to The Guardian, following the July 11 premiere of James Gunn’s Superman, there has been a 513% increase in the Google search term “adopt a dog near me.” This implies that audiences couldn’t get enough of the playful and powerful pup and want one of their own. And the key term, “adopt,” is also quite significant. Instead of heading over to a breeder, Superman fans seem to want to bring an animal in need into their homes. And I think that’s exactly what Superman would want!
It also appears that people want a pup that looks like Krypto, who was based on Gunn’s rescue dog, Ozu. According to the publication, the little guy is a mix of schnauzer and terrier. The Guardian reported that searches for “adopt a schnauzer” have increased by 299 percent on Google since the release of Superman.
If you're a Superman fan who has been inspired to adopt a dog, please visit your local rescue organization. There’s a good chance there’s a Krypto out there just for you! Also, if you want to be like Clark and foster a dog (spoiler alert, Krypto is actually his cousin, Kara’s pup), please contact a dog shelter or rescue in your neighborhood!
