Hilary Swank Helps Woman Reunite With Her Elderly Dog
Most people associate Hilary Swank with her incredible, award-winning performances. However, some fans may not be aware that the actress is a massive dog lover.
According to the Albany Times Union, Swank helped a pup parent named Chelsea Blackwell reunite with her dachshund, Blue, on June 6. Blackwell had been searching for her lost senior dog in Albany, where Swank happened to be filming an upcoming project. During her search, Blackwell accidentally ended up at the filming location and discovered that the Academy-award-winning actress took in her furry friend. Swank was notified that Blue’s owner was on set and returned the adorable 15-year-old dog. The actress also offered to snap a photo with Blackwell and her canine companion.
"I was like, 'No way.’ As soon as she got out of the car, I kissed Blue and said, 'Thank you so much,'" shared the dog owner.
After the ordeal, Blackwell took to Facebook to share her experience.
"I'd stopped and asked if someone seen a little brown dog? A man walked over to my car and said, yes, this woman picked him up. I said who? He replied, a celebrity. He called the person who had him. And they said she's on her way back.. You'll never guess who had him?? Hillary [sic] Swank," read the post.
Here at Woof Republic, we are not surprised that Swank helped a furry friend in need. The actress is a proud pup parent to four rescue dogs named Kai, Teddy, Sufi, and Moon. While speaking to People magazine, the “P.S. I Love You” star shared she has had a lifelong love of dogs.
“I always wanted a dog, every Christmas and birthday I would say can I please have a dog, my entire childhood,” stated the actress.
She noted that she adopted her first rescue dog when she was 18-years-old.
“When I moved out of the house at 18, I went to the Humane Society and I got my first dog that I rescued and I named her Lucky,” said the 47-year-old.
She also shared that she had a special bond with her late rescue pup named Karoo, who tragically passed away “from an autoimmune disorder.” After the dog’s death, Swank decided “to create a charity kind of in honor of her spirit and dog spirit.”
“Hilaroo which is my name and Karoo’s name put together and we bring kids who have been given up on and animals who have been abandoned together to help heal each other,” stated Swank.
