Why 'Witcher' Star Henry Cavill Says His Dog Is 'An Absolute Savior'
Over the past two decades, British actor Henry Cavill has certainly made his mark in the entertainment industry. The 38-year-old has starred in projects like "Man of Steel," "The Tudors," and "Enola Holmes." He currently plays Geralt of Rivia on the hit Netflix series "The Witcher."
As fans are aware, the actor is absolutely obsessed with his dog Kal. The 7-year-old pup is often featured on Cavill's Instagram account. In a post, uploaded on August 26, 2021, the actor described his furry friend as “part dog, part bear, part pig and all soul.”
”For those who don't know, this is Kal, he is an American Akita and he is an absolute gem. I've had him since he was 10 weeks old and we have been through thick and thin together. We actually spend so much time together, I'm not sure who imitates who anymore! And I'm pretty sure he'd be a strong contender for the world record for converting dog haters, takers or leavers, and fearers into dog lovers,” read a portion of the post.
While speaking to People magazine in December 2019, Cavill revealed that his furry friend is by his side at all times, even during the production of “The Witcher.”
“He was there the entire time. He spent most of the time inside the trailer, rather than on set because when he can see me but he can’t get to me he tends to start making a lot of noise and we didn’t want him running in half way through a scene or half way through a sword fight, especially because he would be taking people down. So he was either on lead or in his trailer but he was always there,” explained the actor.
During a December 2019 interview with On Demand Entertainment, Cavill mention that he brings his pooch on the “Witcher” set. He then explained what his dog means to him.
“He has been an absolute savior for me. He is a true companion and in those moments where I just need another being around but not necessarily to be putting lots of effort in that person. He’s fantastic. To me, he’s very much — he’s a dog but he’s a companion. He’s a person as well,” shared the actor.
The “Witcher” star then compared his relationship with his Akita, to his character’s bond to his horse, Roach. He explained that the horse is “Geralt’s best friend.”
“The Witcher” season 2 will be available on December 17, 2021.
