Fun Activities To Do With Your Dog for Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day is nearly upon us, meaning that most of us will have three days to do whatever we please. My dog and I intend to spend the long weekend watching copious amounts of reality television.
If you are stumped with what you and your pup should do for Memorial Day, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
Here are some ideas on how to spend the long weekend with your furry friend.
Head Over To A Beach
Celebrate Memorial Day by taking your furry friend to your local beach. Before you head out, make sure your destination allows dogs! To help you out, here is a list of the most dog-friendly beaches in America.
Go Camping
Camping is the perfect activity for Memorial Day weekend. When you go camping with a dog, be sure you pack dog food, water, a collapsible bowl, a canine first aid kit, a harness, a leash, and a biodegradable poop bag.
Head Over To A Local Trail
If you can’t commit to an entire weekend of camping, you should still consider enjoying the great outdoors with your canine companion. Now, hiking with your furry friend can be a little tricky. For one, you’ll need to pack the supplies as if you were camping with your pooch. You should also be courteous to other hikers on the trail. I recommend leashing your dog, even if they are the best girl or boy in the whole world. I come from a family of dog-phobic people, so I know that some hikers can feel unsafe if they see a dog roaming off-leash on a trail. Finally, make sure that you pick up after your pooch. It’s crappy not to do it.
Throw A Dog-Friendly BBQ
I equate Memorial Day with making a copious amount of food on the grill. For this reason, you should consider inviting your friends over and throwing a dog-friendly barbecue. Now, most foods at traditional barbecues don’t agree with our furry friends’ stomachs. Thankfully, dogs can snack on some watermelon and unseasoned potatoes.
Stop By A Local Cafe
I can’t think of anything more idyllic than having brunch at a local cafe with my furry friend.
Donate Money
It would be remiss to not honor veterans on Memorial Day. You may want to donate funds to organizations that help the brave individuals who have served our country. For instance, K9s For Warriors provides dogs for soldiers who suffer from mental health issues.
