F1's Lewis Hamilton Shares How His Beloved Bulldog Has Changed
Fans of British racing driver Lewis Hamilton are well aware he’s absolutely obsessed with his gorgeous bulldog, Roscoe. If you’ve ever watched one of his races, you’ve likely seen the furry friend, as Hamilton rarely travels without the adorable dog.
In an October 2024 interview with People magazine, Hamilton said he decided to recently change up his 12-year-old dog’s diet. While speaking to the publication, the Formula One driver, who has invested in plant-based dog food brand Bramble, has chosen to feed his bulldog a plant-based diet. According to Hamilton, Roscoe’s health and energy levels have changed for the better. He said:
"Roscoe is almost like a different dog to when I first got him. I’m always looking for ways to look after his health and really just improve his quality of life, and his diet is just one part of that, but he has so much more energy and doesn’t struggle as much with the health issues he had before. I've had Roscoe with me for a long time, and the first eight years, he was on a normal diet for dogs that included meat. He always had health issues and would struggle with things like his breathing and his walking. I wanted to see if there was anything I could do to help him, so I did some research into things that might improve his health. I saw that having a plant-based diet was something that could be helpful as long as you were making sure the dog was getting all its nutritional needs met, so I decided to try it."
In addition, Hamilton shared that he also sticks to a plant-based diet.
“I was thinking about my health and fitness and what changes I could make to feel my best, and the more I started looking into plant-based diets, the more I realized this was something that could be impactful," said the racing driver. "It just felt like ethically, scientifically, and even based on the types of foods I love to eat, this was something that made sense for me."
After hearing Hamilton’s positive reviews of having his furry friend go on a plant-based diet, you may also want to consider doing the same for your dog.
According to the American Kennel Club, owners can put their furry friends on a vegan diet if they get a go-ahead from their veterinarians. This is because dogs aren’t actually carnivores, but rather omnivorous, just like humans.
However, a vegan diet is not ideal for dogs, as it can potentially lack protein and vitamins, like B-12. If you decide to go the vegan route for your furry friend, you will need to stock up on veterinarian-recommended supplements.
Pet MD also warns you to refrain from giving your furry friend homemade vegan meals, as your dog may end up having an unbalanced diet.
