Your Guide To Throwing A Puppy Party
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, life can seem a little bleak. The monotony of staying home day after day with limited contact from family and friends can make anyone feel like there isn't much to look forward to. So there has never been a better time to celebrate your dog’s birthday, half birthday, or heck even their quarter birthday. Basically, we’re saying that you should throw your pup a party so that you have something fun to focus on during these difficult times.
Now, for health and safety reasons, we are recommending to only invite those who you are quarantining with to the shindig. Feel free to set up a Zoom call for loved ones who are unable to physically be there. You can also wait it out until it’s safe to gather in large groups again and plan out all the party details in the interim.
So without further ado, here are some ideas for a pawesome dog party.
Just a quick note-- this is not an affiliated post, we just want you and your pooch to have a good time.
The More Doggy Decor The Better
Decor is really what makes a party a party. For your pup’s celebration use dog paper cups, featuring some seriously adorable floppy ears, and matching plates. If you’re feeling a little extra, consider purchasing personalized cocktail napkins adorned with an illustration of your dog. You should also put up some pup-themed streamers and balloons.
Party Hats are a Must
Is there anything more festive than party hats? We think not. Be sure to buy some for both your human and canine guests.
Bake A Cake
I’m a bit of a dessert fiend so I get personally offended if I’m at a party if there’s no cake. And frankly, my dog feels the same way and she’s very vocal in her opinion. It’s actually caused a few rifts between her and her friends from the dog park.
While you can buy cakes that are safe for your furry friend, it might be more fun to bake one. We recommend this recipe.
Don’t Forget the Ice Cream
Like any rational person, I am a firm believer that ice cream is an absolute must if you are serving cake. These beef flavor doggie sundaes should do the trick.
Provide Dog-Themed Snacks
There’s a high likelihood that your human guests aren’t going to want to nosh on your dog’s cake or ice cream. Instead, give them dog-themed foods, like hot dogs, cookies shaped like a puppy, or pupcorn (which is just a festive pronunciation of popcorn).
Play Pup-Inspired Games
Make your party memorable by playing some pup inspired games. You can start out simple and play something like “pin the tail on the puppy.”
For those who don’t mind putting in some effort, consider making a trivia game based on your dog’s life. The questions can vary from “what is Fido’s favorite toy” to “which neighborhood cat does he hate the most.” If you and your guests are over the age of 21, it could be fun to implement an alcoholic beverage with the game. For instance, for every question you get wrong you have to take a sip of your White Paw.
Make A Pawsome Soundtrack
No party is complete without a good soundtrack. For your dog-themed mix, put on Cat Stevens’s “I Love My Dog,” The Monkees’s “Gonna Buy Me A Dog,” and of course, the classic 1998 song “Who Let the Dogs Out” by the Baha Men.
Disclaimer: this will be somewhat of a chaotic soundtrack.
Watch a Few Movies Starring Some Furry Friends
If you aren’t super into the music idea, you can put on a few movies starring some furry friends in the background. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite dog-themed movies that are available to stream here.
