Denver Pitbull Ban REPEALED! Voters Have Spoken, A Huge Win For Pitbulls In The US

DENVER REPEALS THE 30 YEAR BAN ON PITBULLS

DENVER — Some incredible news came out of the 2020 Election for dog lovers, Denver ended a 30 year old ban on pitbulls. If you had a bully type breed this meant that your dog could be confiscated from you causing so many dog owners to live in fear.

According to Denver’s election results page, 64% of voters were in favor of overturning the ban and 35% were against it.

Quinn Pigott who is a community organizer that coordinated Repeal Denver BSL shared with Woof Republic about the news that the voters in Denver supported this initiative.

We are so excited that we can officially announce our victory here in Denver for the replacement of a 30 year old breed ban! Starting Jan. 1, 2021, pit bull type dogs will be able to reside in the city of Denver through a new ordinance. Replace Denver BSL is going to continue to work with shelters and organizations in the area to promote dog licensing, education and safety. We hope this is the start of needed and great change throughout the country. RDBSL could not have done this without the support of the dog community and our volunteers, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you - we did it Denver!

The debate on pit bulls in Denver has drawn a lot of attention – Mayor Michael Hancock vetoed a repeal on the ban earlier this year and city council did not have enough votes to override the veto, ultimately sending it to voters instead. This is a huge moment for pitbulls in the nation! There are hundreds more cities across the nation with these sorts of pitbull bans. More to come on this article!! But it is great news nonetheless!

Let’s end BSL across the nation!
