Chris Evans Reveals Rescuing An Adult Dog Has Been His 'Best Decision'

It may be safe to say that Chris Evans is one of the biggest dog lovers in Hollywood. If you follow the “Captain America” star on social media, you are well aware that he’s obsessed with his rescue dog Dodger. The actor first laid eyes on the precious pooch during the production of the 2017 film “Gifted,” where the pup had been brought in to play a shelter dog. Chris soon realized that Dodger was actually in need of a home and immediately took him in.

In an October 2020 interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the “Lightyear” actor acknowledged that he has his furry friend’s name tattooed on his chest and explained that his love for Dodger is “the purest relationship” he has. Evans also shared that his canine companion was named after the beloved Disney character, Dodger, from the 1988 movie “Oliver and Company.”

“When I first saw him in the shelter I was like, Dodger from ‘Oliver and Company.’ And then after I took him home with me, I went through the process of trying to think of other names and I just couldn’t get off Dodger and I thought well, I’m not going to over think this one,” said Evans.

During a June 2022 interview with Buzzfeed, the “Captain America” star gleefully played with puppies, adult dogs, and senior canines. While the actor clearly enjoyed sitting on the floor petting young pups, he explained why he decided to adopt an adult dog. He noted that Dodger was 2-years-old when he rescued him.

“I always thought when I adopted a dog or rescued a dog, it would be a little puppy, and Dodger was a fully grown dog and it wasn’t the story I had in my mind but it ended up being the best decision of my life,” stated the “Knives Out” actor.

He then shared that he believed “a lot of adult dogs and older dogs are overlooked.”

“And that’s a shame, so let’s give them a chance too,” said Evans.

The actor also revealed that he has a particular soft spot for senior dogs who are looking for their forever homes.

“They have such a connection to whoever they’ve been around for a while and it makes an older dog’s love so special, you gotta earn it. No disrespect to the puppies, but you know, these guys have probably seen some things and as a result, they’re a little wary. That’s why it takes time and I really respect that,” stated the actor.

Here at Woof Republic, we appreciate how much Evans adores his furry friend! We also hope his fans will follow his lead and adopt older pups in need.
