Can My Dog Catch My Cold?
Unfortunately, I have a horrible immune system. I blame this on being a bookish child with no real interest in rolling in the dirt. That being said, I am by no means a medical professional.
Regardless of the reason, I do get sick a lot. Now, when I'm ill, I will try to limit my contact with anyone as much as I can. However, my dog is always by my side through sickness and health. This has got me thinking – does this put my furry friend at risk for potentially catching my cold?
According to the American Kennel Club, dogs can get colds and exhibit symptoms like sneezing and coughing. However, it is extremely unlikely for a canine companion to get a cold from their owner or any other human.
Owners who believe their furry friend may have a cold, please take them to the vet. While it may not be serious, other potentially deadly diseases, like kennel cough, parainfluenza virus, and bronchitis, can also cause your dog to cough and have congestion.
Once your vet determines that your dog just has a run-of-the-mill cold, you will need to help your canine companion get better. The Animal Clinic of Woodruff reported that the best course of action is to keep your furry friend hydrated, wipe their runny nose, and make sure they are warm and comfortable.
