Best Places To Take Your Dog In Portland This Summer

It’s officially summer which means the perfect time to go on an adventure with your furry friend! So they don’t feel excluded from any activity, you should go somewhere that is dog-friendly. Fortunately, there are quite a few super fun cities in the U.S. that cater to canines. One of these places is Portland, Oregon. That’s right, the land of flannels, craft microbreweries, and artisanal coffee shops are incredibly welcoming to four-legged friends. Here are some places you and your pup can check out in Portland this summer.

Sellwood Riverfront Park

Sellwood Riverfront Park is a super popular place for people to bring their pups, especially during the warmer months. The park is essentially a slice of the Willamette River’s shoreline, where you can enjoy a picnic while your pooch splashes in the water. The only downside is that Fido will most likely come home extremely sandy and smelling quite literally like a wet dog, so a bath will probably be necessary before you head back to your hotel.

Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden is a great place where your pup can quite literally stop and smell the roses. Dogs who visit the gorgeous garden, full of flora and fauna, must be exceedingly well-behaved and be on a leash at all times. The Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden is open daily from 5 am to 10 pm and admission is $5.

One of the best activities to do during the summer with your pup is to head over to a local farmer market. As the name implies, the Portland Saturday Market is open every Saturday. You can visit both food and art vendors from 11 am to 5 pm.

The Rambler

The Rambler can be found in the heart of the Historic Mississippi Avenue District, one of the hippest parts of Portland. And seeing as Portland is pretty darn hip, that’s saying something. The bar is a renovated 1920's bungalow with a spacious patio where people and pups can sit in front of firepits and play a game of bocce ball. While the establishment is known for its drinks, it’s also a pretty popular brunch spot.

Portland is known for its gorgeous scenery. There’s no better to take in all the sights than to hike the Powell Butte Nature Park, which is essentially just a massive meadow where your dog can freely frolic.

No list of dog-friendly bars in Portland is complete without mentioning Fido’s- The World’s First Dog Taphouse. This amazing establishment does a lot more than serving up delicious craft beers. The taphouse has a “fido room” where adoptable rescue dogs live. If that doesn’t make you want to immediately visit, the dog-themed menu certainly will. There’s even a special meal for pups called the “Doggie Mash,” which consists of brown rice, chicken, and peanut butter.
