Best Places To Take Your Dog In Austin This Summer
With Covid restrictions loosening up, you probably are inclined to travel this summer. However, if you happen to have a canine companion, you may feel like your choices are somewhat limited because you want to bring your pup along. Unfortunately, not everywhere in the U.S. is dog-friendly.
Thankfully, there are quite a few cities, like Austin, Texas, that have plenty of places where you can spend your time with your pup by your side. Here are some dog-friendly spots in Austin to take Spot this summer.
Aloft Austin Northwest
If you are not from Austin and looking for a place to stay with your furry friend look no further than the Aloft Austin Northwest. This swanky dog-friendly establishment has numerous amenities like an indoor pool, a very fancy snack bar, and a 24-hour gym. Unfortunately, those places are off-limits for pups (unless you get them a very convincing human disguise). You can, however, hang out together on the spacious patio and soak in the summer sun.
Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt
Another place that welcomes canine companions is the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt, located in Downtown Austin. While the hotel is on the pricey side, the Kimpton seems to really care about dogs. Each dog-friendly room has a comfy bed just for pups, water bowls, and food mats. Your very good boy or girl is also welcomed to the hotel’s “nightly wine reception.”
Yard Bar
The Yard Bar offers a unique experience for dog-lovers in Austin. The bar’s outside area consists of an off-leash dog park. Customers, who are 21 or older, can sip on an adult beverage from the dog park’s full bar while their furry friend frolics on agility equipment. After Fido works up an appetite, you can order him something off of the “Dog Food” menu. Any pooch will appreciate a delicious meal of cut-up Nathan's Hot Dogs or a plate of meatballs and gravy. While people are presumably free to eat off the dog menu, there are also plenty of delicious options curated with humans in mind.
Austin Terrier
As the name implies, the Austin Terrier is an extremely dog-friendly establishment. Pups can join their parents on the spacious patio while they munch on a free treat.
Moontower Saloon
Moontower Saloon is one of the hipper spots to bring your pup, meaning that it's the perfect place for my dog. (She constantly wears a leather jacket and owns a motorcycle.) The establishment, which was once a ranch house from the 1950s, welcomes people with pooches to grab a drink from one of the patio bars and to enjoy some live music out on its 11-acre lawn.
Banger’s Sausage House and Beer Garden
Another pawsome Austin establishment that welcomes pups is Banger’s Sausage House and Beer Garden. Full discretion, I’m a vegetarian, who rarely drinks, but even I am interested in stopping by this quaint outdoor restaurant. The Beer Garden has an expansive menu with so many delicious options, like fried spear pickles, poutine, and salted caramel pancakes. There’s even a special sausage just for pups, called a Woof Wurst.
Turkey Creek Trail
If you and your pup like to hike, check out the gorgeous Turkey Creek Trail. The trek is only 2.5 miles, which is good news for those of us with dogs who like to quit midways through and demand to be carried.
Barkin’ Springs
During hot Texas summers, there’s nothing better than going for a quick dip in a body of water. According to Atlas Obscura, Barkin’ Springs is a “big, spring-fed, municipal swimming hole,” which welcomes all dogs, big and small!
Austin Doga
Does your dog need to destress? I know mine does. She works tirelessly to ensure that she barks at all of our neighbors every day. To help your precious pup unwind during your Austin summer stay, head over to Austin Doga, where you can take a yoga class with your furry friend.
