Dog-Themed Movies To Stream While You Quarantine And Chill

Greatest Dog Movies (1).png

During the coronavirus pandemic, it has been advised to limit social interaction and to self-quarantine. Due to this, it is best for those who are able to stay at home. Now, this certainly puts a damper upon Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations. But hope is not lost.

The world is in a chaotic state so while you are staying home and social distancing. Here are Woof Republic’s favorite dog-related films available to stream while you cuddle your dog on the couch. Here are our top eight picks:

Turner & Hooch

While Turner & Hooch isn’t necessarily a cinematic masterpiece, there is something undeniably charming about a buddy cop movie with Tom Hanks and a French Mastiff as the two leads. There are actually plans in the works for the 1989 film to be adapted into a television series, starring Josh Peck. To prepare for the show’s premiere, you can watch the original movie on Disney+.

Dog Days

The 2018 film Dog Days can be best summarized as Love, Actually with way more dogs. Basically, it is perfect for anyone who loves rom coms that feature interwoven storylines and have a huge cast. You and your pooch can watch the adorable film, starring Eva Longoria, Vanessa Hudgens, Adam Pally, and Finn Wolfhard, on Amazon Prime and Hulu.

Best In Show

If you are a fan of irrelevant mockumentaries, look no further than Christopher Guest’s comedy Best in Show. The film, written by Guest and Eugene Levy of Schitt’s Creek fame, takes an intimate, albeit ridiculous, look at competitive dog shows. Best in Show can be streamed on Amazon Prime.

Lady & the Tramp

I love and want to celebrate how Disney Plus made this movie. Both of the pups in this movie were rescue dogs that were up for adoption. This movie made spagetti romantic and changed first dates all over the world! Justin Theroux and Tessa Thompson are both proud rescue pup parents and I love that this was celebrated. Lady and the Tramp is available to stream on Disney Plus.

101 Dalmatians

The 1961 animated classic One Hundred and One Dalmatians is a family-friendly movie definitely worth revisiting. That being said, your dog may understandably get a little freaked out by Cruella de Vil, so you may want to consider fast forwarding her scenes. Unsurprisingly, the Disney classic can be found on none other than Disney+.

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

This is one of our favorite dog movies of all time! When I was a kid I only had cats, I watched Shadow with his boy and seeing that loyalty made me Team Dog! I think as I’ve gotten older I now relate more with the story of Chance voiced by the incredible Michael J. Fox. What is so incredible is the animal acting. Remember how funny and hilarious Sassy was, voiced by the amazing Sally Field. Homeward Bound is available to stream now on Hulu.

My Dog Skip

My Dog Skip, based on the memoir by Willie Morris, is a quintessential coming of age film taking place in the 1940s. While the movie takes kind of a strange turn with a plot involving moonshiners, watching Willie, played by Frankie Muniz, have adventures with his adorable Jack Russell Terrier, Skip, is simply heart-warming. The movie can be found on HBO Go.

The Art of Racing in the Rain

The Art of Racing in the Rain focuses on a Golden Retriever named Enzo, whose inner monologue is voiced by Kevin Costner. Really what more do you need. The film can be rented on either YouTube or Amazon Prime.

Marley & Me

If you are able to clear your schedule for a few hours of crying time, go ahead and stream Marly & Me on Amazon Prime. Fun fact, when I saw the 2008 film, starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, in theaters I embarrassed my entire family by uncontrollably sobbing. For this reason, I am not allowed to watch Marly & Me in their presence.

The Fox and the Hound

Speaking of crying, The Fox and the Hound can also make you a little bit of an emotional wreck. You can watch Tod the fox and Copper the hound navigate their forbidden friendship on Disney+.
