Are Nylon Chew Toys Safe for Dogs?

My dog is obsessed with toys. She approximately has 30 stuffed animals, all in various stages of disarray. Three of her favorite toys, Kody the Avocado, Mr. Pancake Butt, and Timothy Olyphant the Elephant -- (no relation to the actor) -- are currently in the infirmary awaiting repair. Despite my desire to make her the most spoiled dog in the world, I’ve decided to refrain from giving her nylon chew toys, as she already has pretty delicate teeth.

According to Cherry Hill Animal Hospital, nylon bones “can damage your pet’s teeth” as the toys are rather hard. Preventive Vet reported that gnawing on a hard nylon bone could bring about teeth fractures. Also, there’s a chance that your furry friend could accidentally consume parts of a nylon bone “leading to a likely digestive obstruction or" stomach upset. For this reason, you may want to consider giving your dog something softer to chew on, like a classic KONG toy or a rubber chew toy. The Animal Hospital of Asheville also stated that soft nylon bones should be okay for your canine companion to chew on. However, it is important to speak to your dog’s veterinarian to ensure that the toy you are giving them is not potentially harmful.
