Anna Marie Tendler Pens a Poignant Tribute to Beloved Dog
Artist Anna Marie Tendler penned a poignant tribute who her late French bulldog, Petunia, whom she shared with her ex-husband, comedian John Mulaney.
In a May 14 Instagram upload, Tendler shared that her dog, who passed away in 2023, would have been 12 years old. The post featured several pictures of Petunia throughout her lifetime.
In the caption of the post, Tendler noted that she spoke about her relationship with her late dog at length in her 2024 memoir, Men Have Called Her Crazy.

“Today would have been Petunia’s 12th birthday. I miss her a lot. I feel so lucky that I had the opportunity to immortalized her and our relationship in Men Have Called Her Crazy,” wrote Tendler in the post’s caption. “During my book tour in Seattle, I had the pleasure of being in conversation with Jen Soriano (@jensorianowrites) where she said ‘Petunia was the great love story of your book.’ “YES!” I exclaimed. (I felt deeply grateful in that moment to be speaking with the type of close and thoughtful reader who gleaned that from my writing.) I think about this all the time, that Petunia is the enduring love story.”
Tendler also shared that she learned “love does not die with the animal.”
“Even though I miss her, I have taken the love she gave me and now pass it onto 3 cats who I am obsessed with, and with whom I am lucky to share a home,” wrote Tendler.
Tendler announced her precious dog’s death in a 2024 Instagram upload. The artist shared several photos of her spending time with the adorable dog.
In the caption, she described the late dog as her “best friend and the great love of [her] life.” She also shared that her pup had humor and wit, stating, “You were the funniest. You were the smartest. You were the weirdest.”
“Everything about you was the best thing,” asserted Tendler. “To think I will never again hold you, hear you, or see your big, beautiful brown eyes gazing back at me seems unfathomable.”
She then expressed gratitude toward Petunia.
“Thank you for letting me be your constant companion, and for being mine. I love you with every part of me. Until we meet again in our next life ❤️,” continued the makeup artist.
