Amanda Seyfried Goes on a 'Date' With Adorable Rescue Dog

Actress Amanda Seyfried went on an adorable “dream date” with a very good girl named Ethel.

While filming a May 2024 video for The Dodo, Seyfried introduced her fans to the senior pit bull, who was in need of a forever home. During their time together, Seyfried and Ethel enjoyed a beautiful spring day by going on a walk in Central Park. Ethel was also invited to the actress’ gorgeous apartment where they had a tea party. In addition, the fast friends each created gorgeous paintings.

While she was bidding Ethel goodbye, the Emmy award winner shared she believed the dog, who has since been adopted, would be a fantastic addition to any family.

The actress also stated that “meeting Ethel was just amazing.”

“She’s just a bundle of energy,” said Seyfried.

During The Dodo video, Seyfried mentioned that she is an animal rescue advocate.

“Since I can remember, I’ve been working with different rescues. Trying to find ways to keep dogs and cats off the street,” stated the actress.

In addition to helping dogs in need, Seyfried has provided a loving home to her canine companion, Finn. As fans of the actress are aware, the “Mean Girl” star is obsessed with her precious pup. Seyfried decided to adopt her canine companion in her early 20s after experiencing debilitating anxiety right when her career was taking off.

“I grew up with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) which I have overcome in a lot of ways. But even so, when I was living alone in Los Angeles in my early 20s, I felt really lonely and scared. I wanted my Mom to be with me, and that’s really difficult when you think that because you’re also thinking, ‘Oh, God, how can I not function as an adult without my mother? How embarrassing, how shameful,’” explained the actress in a 2019 interview with Express. “Then, when I was about 24, I got Finn, and he not only made me feel I wasn’t alone, he actually helped me to enjoy my solitude. These days, I thrive when I’m on my own, which is so freeing. There is so much that I don’t fear any more, just because of him.”

The “Art of Racing in the Rain” star and her furry friend – who is a very handsome Australian Shepherd – first met while she was filming HBO’s hit series, “Big Love.”

In an essay she penned for InStyle, she noted that she was introduced to Finn’s sister and fell in love. She soon found out that her “breeder was trying to find a home for even more puppies.”

From there, Amanda decided to foster Finn, citing that she “didn't think [she] was going to be able to have a dog with [her] if [she] was leaving town all the time for work.” However, she soon changed her mind after spending just one day with him.

“I became a dog person overnight. It turns out, if you really love something and you want it badly enough, you can make it work,” explained the actress.

Amanda also stated that she does not enjoy being separated from her dog and has made “sure Finn is allowed on set in all of [her] work contracts.”

Finn was also the inspiration for the 38-year-old “to get more involved in animal advocacy” and make numerous videos for Best Friends Animal Society.

“I decided to speak for animals because they literally don't have voices. We can all be voices for them. I feel like it’s part of my job to talk about things that are important and hope that at least one person hears me,” stated Seyfried.

If you are inspired by Seyfried’s devotion to helping pups in need, consider fostering or adopting a dog looking for their forever home.
