6 Awesome Places To Take Your Dog In NYC This Summer
If you’re planning to take a trip this summer with your dog but don’t know where to go, consider visiting New York City. Not only is it one of the greatest places in America, but it also happens to be incredibly dog-friendly. Here are just a few of the amazing places that welcome pups in NYC.
Central Park
Central Park is the most iconic park in all of the United States, so it’s definitely worth a visit. You and your pooch can reenact scenes from classic movies, like “When Harry Met Sally,” “Home Alone 2,” and “The Muppets Take Manhattan.” If that’s not enough to convince you, the park has over 20 dog-friendly locations, where your pooch can roam off-leash from the hours of 6 am-9 am and 9 pm-1 am.
Staten Island Ferry
If your dog has ever wanted to get up-close-and-personal to the Statue of Liberty, they are in luck. The Staten Island Ferry allows dogs! The only catch is, all canine companions need to be well-behaved and secured inside a carrier at all times.
Tompkins Square Park
Tompkins Square Park has provided a safe haven for pooches since 1990. The park consists of two fenced-in areas: one for larger dogs and the other for petite pups. Dogs of all sizes can enjoy the park’s bone-shaped pools, which are particularly popular during the sweltering summers. A major bonus of this park is that it is within walking distance of Boris & Horton, a beloved dog-friendly cafe.
Boris & Horton
Speaking of Boris & Horton, we highly recommend stopping by this incredible spot, owned by the father-daughter duo Coppy Holzman and Logan Mikhly. Last year, we were lucky enough to catch up with Logan on the Woof Life Show.
The co-owner of the dog-friendly cafe explained that the idea for the establishment occurred when she was on a walk with her father and their dogs, Boris and Horton, the coffee shop’s namesakes. She stated when they decided that they “wanted to get coffee in the West Village,” they faced the predicament of what to do with their precious pooches.
“One of us had to go inside to the coffee shop while the other had to wait outside with the dogs and we were like wait there might be a solution for this and a bunch of pet cafes had opened,” said Logan. “We started doing research on it and from the initial research with the health department to opening it was about a year.”
If you do visit the hip cafe this summer, we recommend trying an iced Horton, which is a spicy mocha, akin to a Mexican hot chocolate. Don’t forget to order something for your pup! A favorite among dogs is the pupcake, which is topped with cream cheese frosting and crispy ham.
Gemma
Gemma is a popular Italian restaurant, which happens to be inside the Bowery Hotel that allows dogs on its outdoor patio. Quite a few celebrities, like Kendall Jenner and Blake Lively frequent this hip establishment, which is great if your dog is obsessed with pop culture like mine is.
Larchmont Dog Beach
There’s no better way to beat the summer heat than going to a dog-friendly beach. The Larchmont Dog Beach is a gorgeous spot to bring Spot! That being said, it will have to be a quick trip because the beach is only open from 9 am to 12:30 pm.
