Westminster Dog Show Winner Gets to Do 1 Special Activity After Taking Home 'Best in Show'

The gorgeous miniature poodle, Sage, took home the big prize of “Best in Show’ at the 2024 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on May 14.

During an appearance on the May 15 episode of the “TODAY” show, Sage and her handler, Kaz Hosaka, were joined by the president of the Westminster Kennel Club, Dr. Donald “Don” Sturz. During the segment, Hosaka shared Sage’s super fun plans following her impressive win. He stated his precious pup was not allowed to play with her canine brother before the big competition. Hosaka explained that Sage’s brother was messing up her gorgeous hair, which was simply not acceptable leading up to the prestigious dog show.

“She has a brother at home. Now she can play with [her] brother. [Her] brother was pulling out hairs. I didn’t let them play,” said Hosaka

Hosaka also shared that the 148th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was Sage’s last show, as he is retiring from being a handler after a 45-year career.

In addition, Sturz shared why he believed Sage managed to impress the judges.

“I think in shortest terms, it’s face. It’s hair. It’s walk. It was just perfection last night. Every step she took. Every moment of the night. She didn’t have a misstep,” said Sturz.
