Top 10 Names For Boy Dogs
Adopting a new dog comes with a whole lot of responsibilities. First, you want to make sure that you have puppy-proofed your home and have all the necessities, including proper bedding, toys, and most importantly, treats. There’s also a good chance that you’ll have to come up with a name. Now, this can be a stressful decision. After all, your dog will resent you if you pick something he doesn’t like. To make your job a little bit easier, here are the ten most popular boy dog names.
Max
Max comes in as the number one most popular name for male dogs. It could be short for either Maximilian or Maxwell.
This probably has a lot to do with the fact that I grew up in the 1990s, but when I hear the name Max, I immediately think of Goofy’s son from the film A Goofy Movie. Now, I trust Goofy with my life, so I would never question his naming abilities. Basically, if the name is good enough for Goofy’s son, it’s good enough for your dog.
Charlie
Charlie is an adorable name. Like Max, it’s typically a nickname, usually short for Charles. This is an ideal name if you are a fan of English novelist Charles Dickens (who isn’t).
Buddy
In my opinion, Buddy is the quintessential dog name. Granted, I do have a personal bias. Growing up, I would feed my neighbor's adorable lab named Buddy each time his owner went on a fishing trip. My neighbor would then pay me with fresh salmon. It was overall an excellent experience.
Cooper
I have mixed feelings about the name Cooper. Again, it reminds me of a Disney movie, specifically The Fox and the Hound. For those unaware, the film is about a fox named Tod and a hound named Cooper, who can no longer be friends due to their differences. It absolutely destroyed me as a child, and I have not revisited it since.
Rocky
If you get the vibe that your dog is a big Sylvester Stallone fan, consider naming him Rocky.
Jack
Jack is either a nickname for Jackson or John, but it’s also perfectly fine on its own. Unfortunately, I do associate it with the character Jack Pearson, who traumatizes his entire family by dying tragically in the NBC drama This Is Us.
Jake
Jake is a very similar name to Jack, but without the association to the show This Is Us. This could either be a positive or a negative depending on your opinion regarding the show.
Toby
Toby is the name of another character from This Is Us. However, he is alive, so he has not yet traumatized his family with his unexpected death.
Bailey
Bailey is an English name, meaning a bailiff. If you do name your dog this, just be prepared that he might treat you like a prisoner.
Oliver
Again, I am a massive fan of the name Oliver because one of my favorite movies growing up was Oliver & Company. As you can see, I mainly watch somewhat obscure animated Disney movies and the hit NBC show This Is Us.
