The 7 Best Ways to Celebrate National Dog Day

If you love dogs, we’ve got great news for you! August 26 is National Dog Day, where we honor our furry friends. I know that my life has improved immensely since getting my pup and she, like all dogs, deserves to be celebrated. If you are a pup parent, you likely feel the same way.

Here are seven ideas on how you can celebrate the pawsome holiday!

Go to Your Local Hiking Trail

Going on a hike is a great way to get some fresh air with your pup. I personally like hiking because it’s a fun way to get some exercise. Now, my dog likes going on hikes because her idea of fun is sniffing approximately 50 trees in under 30 minutes.

Head Over to The Dog Park

For National Dog Day, consider bringing some extra treats to give to all the pups at the park. Just make sure that you ask their owners first before you give them one.

Buy Something Tasty at a Dog-Friendly Establishment

I am highly food-motivated, much like dogs. Use National Dog Day as an opportunity to dine out at local eateries or cafes that you haven’t tried out yet. Just call ahead beforehand to make sure that the establishment has a dog-friendly patio.

Take Your Furry Friend Camping

When you go camping with a dog, be sure that you pack dog food, water, a collapsible bowl, a canine first aid kit, a harness, a leash, and a biodegradable poop bag.

Go To The Beach

During the summer, there’s nothing better than going to the beach with your furry friends. Pack a few towels, lunch for you and your canine companion, and a tennis ball.

Adopt A Dog

If you don’t have a dog or are looking to add another furry friend to your family, consider adopting a pup from a local rescue or shelter. You won’t regret it!

Spend Time At the Animal Shelters

Now, not everyone can financially or emotionally commit to adopting a dog, which is super understandable. If you are unable to commit to owning a furry friend but still want to show a pup some love, you can volunteer at a shelter. Plenty of places are looking for people to help socialize shelter dogs so they will have a better chance at adoption.
