'Superman' Star Shares Devastating News About Beloved Dog

Superman star Rachel Brosnahan shared devastating news with her fans. 

In a July 15 Instagram upload, Brosnahan revealed her beloved dog, Nikki, whom she shared with her husband, Jason Ralph, has passed away. The post featured several pictures and videos of the couple with their adorable dog. 

“We said goodbye to our smiley, sweet Nikki on Sunday and our hearts hurt. She was special. She cuddled like a human and had eyes that made you feel like she’s surely been here before,” read the caption of the post. “She hated mornings and snow boots and being cold. She hated her little brother until one day she loved him a lot. She loved snacks, the beach and sitting on any piece of furniture she wasn’t allowed on. She sometimes faked injuries so we would pet her more. She had a long life and we loved her hard. We’ll miss her forever.” 

Brosnahan and her husband also have a dog named Winston.

Brosnahan spoke about how much she was obsessed with her canine companions during a January 2019 interview with Men’s Journal.

“I can hang with the craziest of the crazy dog ladies. They’re my fur children. Nikki is a pit mix, and she’s so gentle and sweet and needy. She just stares at you with these human eyeballs. Her well is very deep. Then Winston is my Shiba Inu, who is filled to the brim with ’tude. He was fiercely independent, more like a cat, but he’s getting cuddlier,” said Brosnahan to the publication. 

Brosnahan also spoiled her Superman co-star David Corenswet’s pup, Ira, during the production of the film. The actress, who plays everyone’s favorite reporter Lois Lane, bought Ira his very own Superman cape. 

“Ira needed his very own cape to match his daddy,” said Brosnahan during a June 2025 interview with Entertainment Tonight.
