Oprah Winfrey Is A Devoted Dog Mom To Three Beautiful Rescues

There are so many reasons to love Oprah Winfrey. She’s a successful businesswoman, a charismatic television host, and a talented actress. One of the reasons I adore her the most, however, is that she is an incredibly dedicated dog mom.

Since she became a household name, Oprah has owned more than 20 pups and famously declared “nothing makes me happier than being with my dogs,” as reported by O, the Oprah Magazine

The “Queen of All Media” shared similar sentiments during a 2014 Super Soul Sunday episode, stating, "Over the years I have felt the truest, purest love—the love of God, really, I imagine that’s what God’s love feels like—is the love that comes from your dog.”

Her current canine companions are Sadie, a cocker spaniel, and two Springer spaniels Sunny and Lauren. All three precious pups were adopted from the Chicago-based no-kill shelter PAWS.

Sadie was rescued in February of 2009. Oprah had been posing with the dogs at PAWS for a photoshoot and took an immediate liking to the lovely little lady.

"Out of all the pups in that picture, Sadie was the one I felt an instant connection with. My heart spoke to Miss Sadie, the runt of the litter. I love making the underdog a winner,” penned the A Wrinkle in Time actress following the adoption in O, the Oprah Magazine.

Oprah returned to the shelter the following year and bought home Sunny and Lauren in celebration of her 56th birthday. She revealed in a 2010 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show that the pups “could have been euthanized if they weren’t adopted.”

Here at Woof Republic, we love the fact that Oprah -- who has an estimated worth of $2.8 billion -- chose to adopt, instead of purchasing a designer dog. We hope that more people can follow her lead!
