What You Need to Know About Meghan Markle And Prince Harry's Dogs

My dog and I have always been fascinated by the royal family. We have a particular fondness for Corgis and fascinator hats. We also have an appreciation for Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry. For this reason, my furry friend and I have, obviously, tuned in to the Netflix series “Harry & Meghan,” which premiered on December 8.

Those who have watched the series may be aware that the couple is proud pup parents to three furry friends, Pula, Guy, and Mama Mia. According to Page Six, Harry shared he is grateful for his pups and considers them his “emotional support dogs” during a video conference in honor of World Mental Health Day. The father of two also shares he views his dogs as furry children.

Here is what you need to know about Harry and Meghan’s canine companions.

Guy

Guy is a sweet beagle who Meghan adopted through Petfinder in 2015. The rescue pup initially lived in Kentucky at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter but was later moved to A Dog’s Dream Rescue, located in Ontario, Canada.

The cutie occupied Meghan when she moved to the UK. In 2017, Guy severely injured himself, breaking his hind legs. Thankfully, the pup was able to make a full recovery. Guy’s story from being a rescue dog to a beloved member of the royal family was adapted into the children’s book, titled “His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle: The Rebarkable True Story of Meghan Markle’s Rescue Dog.”

Pula

Pula, a black lab, was adopted in the summer of 2018 and lived with Megan and Harry in Nottingham Cottage before their big move to LA.

Mama Mia

In August 2022, People magazine reported Meghan and Harry brought home a 7-year-old beagle named Momma Mia. The adorable dog was one of 4,000 beagles bred to be test subjects for the contract research organization Envigo. After over 70 animal welfare violations were discovered at the Cumberland, Virginia breeding facility, the Humane Society of the United States was granted the ability to rescue the dogs in July 2022.

The overseer of the Beagle Freedom Project, Shannon Keith, shared some information about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with People magazine. The animal rights attorney asserted that Meghan and Harry “are the most loving, sensitive and caring adopters [she has] ever met!”

“We were so honored that they have been supporting the Beagle Freedom Project and chose to adopt a dog who has been abused,” stated Keith. "They made a point to adopt a rescue named Mia, who most would overlook because she is older, has health issues and is traumatized by her past. I was so impressed by their commitment to animal welfare! They have been following up letting us know how well Momma Mia is doing in her new, amazing home!"

Bogart

Meghan once owned a lab-shepherd mix named Bogart. According to the "Suits” star, she was urged by Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, to adopt the dog, when they all happened to be visiting the same shelter. Unfortunately, due to his age and health issues, the actress was unable to take him with her to England. In the couple’s 2017 engagement interview, Meghan explained that Bogart was “staying with very close friends” in Canada.
