John Oliver Thanks Beloved Late Dog in Memorable Emmys Speech
Comedian John Oliver’s acceptance speech at the 2024 Emmys likely struck a chord with dog lovers.
While accepting the award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series for his acclaimed HBO series, “Last Week Tonight,” Oliver expressed gratitude to the show’s staff, his wife, Kate Norley, and their children. He also took a moment to thank his late dog.
“We had the most fantastic dog, and she was at our wedding, and she got us through a pandemic, she was with us through two pregnancies,” said Oliver.
Unfortunately for Oliver, his poignant moment remembering his pup got interrupted by the award show’s play-off music. The comedian had some choice words before continuing his speech. He then suggested that his furry friend, whom he described as “amazing,” was recently laid to rest.
In addition, he decided to dedicate his award to all dogs.
“This is not just for her, this is for all dogs. You are very good girls, you are very good boys. You all deserve a treat,” said Oliver.
